Scattered throughout the EMSCHERKUNST site, multiple observation telescopes create a setting reminiscent of a scenic lookout. Upon looking into each object lens, viewers become aware that the expected panorama has been somehow altered from reality. By inserting a variety of modifications between the lens and eyehole, the telescopes distort views of distant objects and offer unpredictable vantage points. Viewers step back in surprise and take a closer look at their surroundings outside the telescope, hoping to find the aspects they may have overlooked with the naked eye but quickly realizing they do not exist in reality.
