A Smile For You

“I’d like to think that happiness looks like that whale, that it’s always swimming around under the surface, and now and then it looks up and becomes visible.” Answer to: Happiness – What does it look like? With the title Jeppe Hein, A Smile For You a new catalogue published by Koenig Books explores happiness. It is a topic Danish artist Jeppe Hein intends to research for many years. Hein’s first outward step of this exploration includes circulating questions about happiness in a media campaign, two parallel exhibitions in Sweden at Bonniers Konsthall and at Wanås Konst and this publication. Together they build the project A Smile For You. The publication contains a wide range of voices discussing both Jeppe Hein’s artwork and the subject of happiness as well as responses to Hein’s five questions about happiness and shared experiences from Berlin, Copenhagen, and Bhutan. Contributors are Sara Arrhenius, Kirsty Bell, Jeppe Hein, Randall Krantz, Bjarne Villy Larsen, Kay Larson, Elisabeth Millqvist, Nadja U. Prætorius, Winnie Rode and Oliver Stilling. The publication is the result of collaborative work including Studio Hein, Berlin, Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm, Wanås Konst, Skåne, the graphic designers All the Way to Paris, Copenhagen and Hanna Schmandin, editor at Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König.
